Aside from my performance and recording career, I believe strongly in breaking down the walls between music creators and consumers. I encourage folks everywhere to attempt music, drawing, photography or writing, even those with little apparent inclination--regardless of age! Many times have I seen the profound joy of folks accessing creative sides of themselves that were lying totally dormant. Nothing brings me greater satisfaction!

I am an avid conservationist and outdoorsman. I have served on the board of the Woodcock Nature Preserve near Athens, Ohio for six years. There, I have helped to establish trails, protect and foster wildlife habitat, plant a commercial orchard of chestnut trees and forge new strategies for land conservation in our region. I aim to continue facilitating local projects that aim to of deliver our lands from clutches of monoculture (corn, wheat and soy) back to the hands of small farmers, perennial agriculturalists and conservancies.
